CHILD OUTREACH SCREENING

Under I.D.E.A. and the Rhode Island Special Education Regulations, the Barrington Public School District is required to take part in the Child Outreach Screening Program This program is designed to screen all children between the ages of 3 and 5  residing or attending preschool in the town of Barrington. The purpose of Child Outreach screening is to identify children who might be at risk for developmental or learning problems, and to serve as a resource for families regarding general child development.

PROCEDURES

1. A packet of materials is provided to the parent/guardian at the time of scheduling.

2. Screening is scheduled one day per month at the Barrington Public Library and is also conducted at all preschools, nurseries, and day cares within the Barrington community. Each child is eligible to be screened once per school year.

3. Dual Language Learners are screened in their home language when warranted.

4. Results of screening are entered into KIDSNET  and A letter summarizing results is sent home to parents (Pass/Re-screen/or Refer)

5. Students are scheduled for rescreening when screening results fall within rescreen range.

6. Children are referred to the Preschool Evaluation Team when developmental screening results fall within the refer range or when developmental screening results do not move to the Pass range following rescreening. A call is made to the parent/guardian to inform them of this decision.
